About SnapHEIC

SnapHEIC is a free, independent tool that converts Apple’s HEIC photos into the formats the rest of the world uses — JPG, PNG, WebP and PDF — without ever uploading your files.

Why I built it

I kept running into the same problem: photos taken on an iPhone wouldn’t open on a Windows PC, wouldn’t upload to certain websites, and wouldn’t attach properly to emails. The “solutions” I found online all wanted me to upload my personal photos to some server I’d never heard of — and in 2025 the FBI even warned that some of those converter sites were spreading malware and harvesting data.

So I built the converter I wanted to use: one that does everything in your browser, so your photos never leave your device. There’s no account, no watermark, and no upload. And you don’t have to take my word for it — the How it works page shows you how to confirm there’s no upload yourself, using your browser’s Network tab or simple airplane mode.

Who makes it

SnapHEIC is built and maintained by Daniel, an independent developer based in Spain. It is a personal project, not a company, and it is not affiliated with Apple Inc. “HEIC” and “HEIF” refer to formats owned by their respective rights holders.

How it stays free

The core converters are free and will stay free. Running costs are minimal because the heavy lifting happens on your device rather than on expensive servers. In future the site may show unobtrusive ads on its guide pages, and offer an optional paid tier for power features (very large batches, a developer API), but the everyday HEIC conversion you came for will remain free and unlimited.
